Objective: To put more pressure on the players across two metres when there is a weak shooter at 2 position; to provide a basis for counter attack from the gapping defender; to disrupt a pre-defined attacking play.
Description: #2's defender drops off on the attacker on the attack's right post (rp) player. The defender between the posts stays on the attack's left post (lp) player. When #2 has the ball, defender 2 plays in front of rp blocking his corner of the goal, while defender 3 blocks the far corner. Defender 4 gaps between attackers 4 and 2, with a priority on attacker 4. Defenders 1 and 5 should move out towards the wing attackers, trying to intercept any passes to them or to catch them in possession if they receive the ball. Variation: Where there is a weak shooter at 4, that players defender may drop off and the other outside defender may gap. |
