Man-down
Playname : Play - man-down vs 3-3

sketch
1
Objective: To defend a 3-3 man-up up, threatening the outside shooters with a tackle, and marking or blocking on two metres when necessary.

Description: Movement of the defenders of 2, 3 and 4 is similar to the gapping defenders in an M-Zone, "stunting" towards outside shooters when they have the ball to keep them off-balance. 1 and 5's defenders may move across to block a post when 2 and 4 attackers respectively have the ball.

2
When attacker 4 has the ball, 5's defender should try to block the near corner of the goal. The defender between 3 and 4 threatens to tackle attacker 4, but should not over-commit unless there is a clear chance of stealing the ball.

Should 4 pass the ball to 5, 5's defender should try to tackle 5 before he can shoot the ball.

When attackers 4 or 5 have the ball, 1's defender needs to mark 1 close enough to cut off the pass to the 1 attacker.

The movement is the similar on the defence's left hand side if 2 has the ball (1's defender movement to the near corner).

3
The defenders between the outside shooters (2, 3 and 4) should counter hard on any unsuccessful shot.

In the first place, they should start their gapping as far from goal as possible to use up time. If the outside shooter come close into goal (inside 5 metres) they must be tackled by the gapping defenders or the closer two metre wing defender.
