Objective: To isolate a defender on a set at 2 metres for a shot, exclusion or penalty.
Description: With the ball in secure possession at positions 3 to 1, 4 drives across toward 1 position, taking his defender with him. As 4 position drives, the attacker at 5 drives onto 2 metres on the left post. The centre forward moves to the right post. The exclusion is often drawn just by the defender resisting the attacker from 5 position moving in. The ball is moved to the player at 3 position, if it is not there already. |

The attackers at position 1 and 2 move round and need to be ready to cover ("to close the back door").
The attacker from 5 position needs to seal position on the left post, ready to receive the ball. The ball is fed to the second set from 3 position, often resulting in an exclusion or shot. The attack is deliberately offset at this moment, and the overloaded right hand side must be ready to defend the counter. Note: A mirroir of this play can be used to make a second set from 1 position, particularly when with a left-hander. |

3
A variation of this play is to make a cross drive from 5 position and bring in the second set from 4 position. The exclusion may simply be drawn as the player from 4 position moves to set at 2 metres.

The outcome is similar to the cross drive from 4 position. The player at 4 position may simply look for the minor at 5 metres for the shot straight from the foul.
