Objective:
1. To remove a blocking defender to open a pass into the centre forward. 2. To move the team best shooters to a good shooting position, perhaps disrupting the defence's system freeing a attacking player for a shot or passer. 3. Very occasionally for the driver to become free for the shot or to draw an exclusion, but the primary objective is 1 above. Description: Assuming secure possession (quite likely the ball at 2 position as in the diagram), 3 position drives strongly towards the outside of the left post. |

The player starting at 3 position ends up at 5 position. 5 comes round to 4 position and 4 to 3 position. This movement should result in the teams best shooters moving to the original 3 and 4 positions and maybe being free to shoot.
Variations: The driver may drive towards 5's defender and make 5 free for the shot or pass. 4's defender may drop back to cover the drive in which case 4 may become free for the shot. The driver may drive to the right of the centre forward if the centre forward is open to the left hand side. The direction of the drive is dictated by not obstructing the feed into the centre forward: drive the opposite side to where the centre forward is open. Driving to the right side could serve to free up a left handed shooter at 2 position. The drive may also come from 2 position to the left side of the centre forward in order to put a shooter at 2 position or to the right side of the centre forward to move a left handed shooter from 1 to 2 position. Similarly a drive may be executed from 4 to 5 position, in order to move a shooter from 5 back to 4 position. |
