Passing
Playname : Drill - stealing

1

Objective: For a defender to get in the habit of dropping onto hole to steal possession from the centre-forward.

Description: Attackers in pairs, 3 metres apart, with a defender between them. One attacker is like a perimeter player, the other is like a centre-forward.

Defender goes to tackle perimeter player who kicks up and passes the ball on the water in front the other attacker (wet pass to the centre-forward).

2

Defender drops to make the steal. Attacker passes back off the water to the perimeter attacker, onto his hand.

Defender moves back out to perimeter player, who continues the drill.

Drill can start with players in groups of 3, each taking a turn as the defender (30 seconds working, 30 seconds rest). Then it can progress to the defender switching with an attacker each the attackers steals the ball.

Coaching points: The defender must kick back quickly to make the steal and move quickly between the two attackers.

Attacker in the centre-forward position must avoid putting their hand on top of the ball and giving away ball-unders.

Attacker feeding must kick up high to make the pass.
