Passing
Playname : Drill - perimeter passing

1

Objective: Availability and retention of possession on the perimeter.

Description: Players in circles of five to seven players. The ball is passed around the perimeter , dry. Each player takes one stroke forward, one stroke back before receiving the ball.

Variations are to receive the ball wet and make a jump-half-turn to move the ball on around the perimeter. A progression would be to alternate or vary dry and wet passes.

The next progression is combine groups so that there are defenders. First, with defending at 50%, the the group in possession move the ball round the perimeter. Defending can be stepped up to put the passers under further realistic pressure.

Progression from this might be a game of Keep-away.

Coaching points: Use of strong leg-kick and non-passing arm to maintain body position and to kick up to make pass.
