Defending
Playname : Drill - defending drivers

1

Objective: Defensive positioning, responsiveness and awareness

Description:
Players in pairs, one player (the defender 1) facing the other (the attacker 2), 1 metre ahead. The attacker attempts to swim past the defender for 5 strokes. The defender attempts to maintain position (inside water) without fouling the attacker.

2

After the attackers 5 strokes, the defender sets again in front of the attacker, who waits for the defender to set.

This drill should be carried out in sets of 4 lengths in a 25 metre bath, the attacker and defender switching at the end of each length.

Coaching points: The defender should set up with hips up near the surface to respond to the attacker. The defender should avoid any possibility of a major foul on the driving attacker.
