Passing
Playname : Drill - basic passing overload

1

Objective: To practise basic movement and passing skills, while improving condition. This drill enables a player to receive as many passes as possible in a short period of time.

Description: Players are in threes in triangles, two balls per three, with the two players on outside starting with the balls, the middle player being level with the middle of the goal.

The middle player swims to level with one post, exchanges pass with the near player, then swims back the 3 metres to the other side, exchanging passes with the other player.

Players work passing for 30 seconds at a time and then changing and resting for 30 seconds.

2

A progression would be to have the middle player move using their legs, rather than swimming. A further progression might be to make wet passes (a goalkeeper may move with their legs and flick up the ball either side.

Coaching points: The middle players needs to get in position to exchange passes, legs underneath, high in the water. The passer on either side must kick up to make the pass.
